After you’ve done all the research for overhead cranes in the market, decided on the type of overhead crane you need for your facility, selected an overhead crane manufacturer as a partner, and signed the agreement, so what’s next? Overhead crane installation. Whether this is your first overhead crane installation, or you’ve installed overhead cranes several times, we hope you can learn something here to help keep your next install on schedule, within budget, and keep your workers safe.
How to Install an Overhead Crane?
Installing an overhead crane, whether it’s a single-girder or double-girder overhead crane, is a complex process that requires careful planning and execution. This guide will walk you through the installation process, and provide 3D installation videos to ensure a successful setup.
1. How to Install A Single Girder Overhead Crane?
Taking the Aicrane AQ-HD European standard single girder overhead crane as an example, we will briefly introduce the installation method of the single girder bridge crane.
The single girder bridge crane installation process includes:
- Assemble the main beam – connect the main beam and end beam – install the electric hoist – install hoist power supply bracket and C-steel slide rail – trial operation of the hoist – install the whole crane on the track – install the slip line and current collector – trial operation of the single girder overhead crane
The main beam and end beam assembly methods of single girder overhead crane:
For different plant installation conditions, we can adjust the assembly methods of the main beam and end beam to meet the installation requirements of the customer’s plant.

- Method 1: This overhead crane installation method is suitable the factory building conditions with a high height from the track surface to the lowest point of the factory building, and can also achieve a higher lifting height;
- Method 2: This method is suitable for the conditions of the factory building with a relatively high height from the track surface to the lowest point of the factory building, and can also achieve a relatively higher lifting height. It can better pass through the ribs at the root of the roof beam.
- Method 3: This overhead crane assembly method is suitable for plant conditions where the height from the track surface to the lowest point of the plant is not high. But the lifting height will decrease accordingly with the sinking of the main beam.
- Method 4: This method is suitable for the factory building conditions with a low height from the track surface to the lowest point of the factory building. In order to increase the lifting height, the main beam is tapped to the upper part.
- Method 5: This eot crane assembly method is suitable for the plant conditions where the height from the track surface to the lowest point of the plant building is low and the entire roof beam is lower. The main girder is tapped to the lower part, the upper part of the main girder is flush with the end girder, and the lifting height also decreases with the sinking of the main girder.

Tools Needed for EOT Crane Installation:
- Truck crane; electric welding machine; heald rope; sleeper; sledgehammer; fitter tools; electrician tools; gas cutting tools; manual grinder; theodolite; leveler; level ruler; multimeter; clamp meter; steel tape measure; electric wrench.
2. How to Install A Double Girder Overhead Crane
The double girder bridge crane installation process includes:
- Main beam connection – guardrail installation – bridge platform installation – end beam connection – ladder installation – main beam A installation – main beam B installation – trolley installation
3. Support Rail Beam Installation For Overhead Cranes
We’ve created a 3D video to guide you through the installation of support rail beams for overhead cranes. Check out the video below to see the installation process in action:
4. No-load and Load Testing Of Your Newly Installed Overhead Crane System
Once the overhead crane is installed, it’s essential to start it up and perform both no-load and load tests to ensure proper functionality. You may opt to have a third-party testing company conduct these tests to confirm that the crane operates safely and efficiently.
- The test run should include: hoist operation (up and down), trolley travel, bridge travel, limit switches and locking mechanisms, safety devices

5. Operator Training
- Finally, after testing the functionality of the overhead crane equipment, the installer will offer training to operators and end users. The duration of the training can range from a few hours to several days, depending on the client’s needs.
