Learn The Basic Structure of Overhead Cranes
Overhead cranes are mainly composed of bridge frame (main beam, end beam, trolley running track, etc.), hoist trolley, bridge running mechanism and electrical control system.

1. Bridge frame – the main load-bearing component of the crane
The main beam is a box-shaped structure on the track. The section of the main beam adopts ANSYS finite element calculation method for systematic analysis and calculation to ensure that it has sufficient strength, stiffness and overall stability.
The end beam is a box-shaped structure, and the connection between the end beam and the main beam is a rigid connection.
The trolley track adopts the whole track with joints welded together to ensure that the trolley runs well.
2. Hoist trolley – lifting mechanism and trolley running mechanism
The lifting mechanism is generally composed of driving device, steel wire rope winding system, fetching device and safety protection device.
The fetching device can be hooks, grabs, electromagnetic chucks, spreaders and hanging beams.
Safety protection devices include overload limiter, lifting height limiter, overspeed protection switch and safety brake.
Trolley running mechanism is the power device that drives the lifting trolley. In order to improve the working efficiency of the bridge crane, the speed is generally faster.
3. Bridge running mechanism
The bridge running mechanism uses two independent drive systems to drive the crane separately.
The wheel diameter and material of the bridge running mechanism are determined according to the maximum supporting force of the wheel under the most unfavourable conditions to ensure that the wheels will not be overloaded.
4. Electric control system
The standard power supply of our overhead travelling cranes is three-phase AC, the rated voltage is 380V, and the rated frequency is 50Hz. It can also be designed according to user requirements.
All the cranes use copper core, multi-strand, sheathed insulated wires and cables.
Electrical protection systemincludes: short-circuit protection, loss of voltage protection, emergency power-off switch, overload limiter, travel limit switch, zero position and interlock protection, grounding protection, phase failure, overvoltage, and undervoltage protection.
A special lighting transformer is used to supply power to auxiliary circuits such as bridge lighting, indoor lighting, electric bell and warning lights, power sockets, etc.
Operation methods include: pendant control, wireless remote control and cabin control.
5. Main Parts
Hook – A forged single hook which is equipped with hook closure to prevent accidental unhooking during lifting.
Coupling and drive shaft – Using a safe, reliable and good transmission performance drum-shaped gear coupling to connect the transmission components of each mechanism. While transmitting torque, it also compensates the angular and radial deviation caused by a certain installation error, and improves the dynamic characteristics of the transmission device. The transmission shaft is made of 45# steel.
Drum group – The drum device is mainly composed of drum gear ring, drum, intermediate shaft device, bearing base device and limit guide rod device.
Wire rope – The wire rope complies with the regulations in GB 8918-2006 “Wire Ropes for Important Uses”. It adopts high-quality wire rope with line contact, which has a product inspection certificate.
Wheel set – The bearing support of the wheel set adopts a corner box structure, which is fixed to the trolley frame or the upper bending plate of the end beam by bolts. This structure allows for the adjustment of the wheel during maintenance.
